A FAMOUS choir is to appear at a popular town event as it prepares to make its return this summer.

The Halstead Summer Fair is back in the public gardens in August, running just its third outing since its inception in 2019.

Due to Covid-19, no more fairs have been able to be run since then, with the event retuning last summer to great success.

The team is made up of lead organiser Linda Smith, alongside Heather Pittuck, David Rosoman and Andy Munday.

Linda said: “It is sure to be a great day again.

“There will be the usual things everyone enjoys, the dog show finishing the fair, a tug of war, stalls, entertainers, much the same as last year.”

However, the big announcement by the organisers is getting The Big Sing Choir, who were a big hit after their recent appearance on the latest series of Britain’s Got Talent.

Vocalists from the choir appeared on the renowned ITV show in April.

Joined by singers from other Big Sing choirs, the harmonising ensemble performed hit song Brighter Days by Emeli Sande.

Wowed by their performance, judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli gave the choir four ‘yes’ votes, sending them through to the next round.

Speaking after the performance, the choir said it was “overwhelmed” by the amazing comments, support and love it received.

Linda said: “It is so exciting to have them at the fair.

“I had heard about them previously but now everyone knows them because of their amazing performance on Britain’s Got Talent.

“We contacted them previously to see if they could perform and at first, they said they sadly couldn’t, but they later told us they had a change of plans and now they could.

“They are performing at 12noon for about 30 to 40 minutes and there will be up to 30 people singing.

“It is sure to be a great show and a great day, now we are just praying for good weather.”

The event is this Saturday, August 5, in the Halstead Public Gardens from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
