The Essex Golf and Country Club’s seniors competed in the first round of their Eclectic Memorial Plate and winning the opener, and receiving a handicap reduction, was Andy Bedford.
A field of 37 seniors competed for the prizes on offer and taking nearest the pin honours on the par-three seventh hole was Ian Dunbar.
In third place and only missing out on second on countback was Ian PIke, who saw his 21 handicap reduced to 20, but he was pipped to a top-two finish by 24-handicapper Peter Pidlisnyj.
Both players returned 39 points and Pidlisnyj, was another to see his handicap trimmed, to 23.
Winner on the day, though, with a magnificent score of 41 points, was nine-handicapper Andy Bedford, who will now play off eight after his cut.
These scores will be carried through to the next round of the Eclectic competition.
