James Hedger and Jack Jordan returned an amazing nett 57 to win the fifth round of the Winter League at Braintree Golf Club.
It was a Texas Scramble competition and under the handicap allowance of one fifth, Hedger, off two, and three-handicap Jordan went round in a gross 58 to win.
In second spot were Mark Banks (13) and Anthony Little (3) with a nett 62.8, while Tony Allars (12) and Neil Brice (8) was third with 63.
With their victory, Hedger and Jordan moved up to second place in the league table with 102 points, three behind leaders Trevor Whiting and Rob Jiggins, while Mike Groves and Malcolm Edney lie third on 89.
There was a four-way tie in the second round of the ladies’ Winter League over nine holes after all scored 19 stableford points.
After a countback, Rosemary Kerr (18) and Sheila Ridings (23) were declared winners ahead of Gillian Barke (12) and Julie Wright (22), with Cyd Rodford (17) and Helen Hart (24) in third place and Melinda Atkinson (13) and Elizabeth Maynard (21) fourth.
