Halstead Cricket Club will be one of the nine host venues when the ICC World Cricket League division six comes to Essex this month.

Nations from all six continents will be descending on the county between September 7 and 15 and competing for two places in division five.

The opening ceremony for the tournament will take place at Five Lakes, with Halstead colt Sam Hume taking part as one of the flag bearers.

Halstead’s Star Stile ground will then welcome a Group A match between Suriname and Guernsey on September 10 (start 1pm).

Suriname played in divsion one of the ICC Americas T20 Championship in May, winning one game alongside the USA, Canada and Bermuda, all of whom have appeared at senior ICC tournaments.

Guernsey featured in the ICC Europe T20 division one in May, finishing fourth in a group that saw Channel Island rivals Jersey qualify for the World T20 qualifiers.

Former Bury St Edmunds player Freddie Klokker of Denmark was the tournament’s leading run scorer.

In 2012, Guernsey appointed former Hampshire and South Africa wicket-keeper Nic Pothas as coach.
