Halstead Amateur Boxing Club’s fighters had a busy time at the All Stars ABC Open Boxing Show in London.

Light-middleweight James Blore was up against Harrow ABC’s bright young prospect Alex Ananiui.

Blore boxed impressively to out-point his skilful opponent. He took time to find his range, but by the second round, the Halstead boxer’s accurate jabbing and good left and right hooks to the head and body had put him in control.

Ananiui, however, proved an excellent opponent and Blore was never able to coast in an busy and entertaining bout.

Next in for Halstead was middleweight Jason Bradley, who was facing Humzch Awcn of Edmonton Eagles ABC.

It was Bradley’s second contest in a week and he chalked up another good win in what proved to be a very hard and tough bout.

Awcn proved to be a very awkward but stylish foe, which made it a tremendously exciting battle and provided the dramatic high spot of the All Stars’ final bout of the evening.

Welterweight Vicki Weitz was matched against Renee Fortuna of the host club in her second-ever contest, just days after her making her debut at Debenham.

She was up against a very strong southpaw, but the Halstead boxer started well, using her natural strength and power.

However, Fortuna showed dazzling ringcraft and took charge from the start, never letting up and she out-jabbed Weitz.

She had tremendous success with her back-hand shots over the top of Weitz’s right hand, which had her in trouble and the referee stepped in to give the Halstead woman a count of eight.

After Weitz then took a barrage of unanswered punches, the referee had no option but to stop the contest.

Halstead coaches Richard Groves and Paul Turner were in the corners.

Meanwhile, the club’s head coach George Cook has thanked competition secretary Groves for his hard work so far this season in matching boxers with some excellent bouts.
