Josh Wells feels Halstead Cricket Club are “on the way up”.

The Halstead batsman has returned to the club this season and as well as showing strong form with his own play for the first team in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two, he has been impressed by the team’s all-round play.

Their nine-wicket win against Copford last weekend was their fourth victory in a row and sees them sitting top of the division heading into today’s home game against Brockley (start 1pm).

Wells, who was captain against Copford in the absence of regular skipper Charlie Douglas-Hughes, led from the front and top-scored once more with an ubeaten 50.

An average of 73.33 so far this season suggests the 19-year-old is enjoying his cricket since coming back to Star Stile after spending a year at Saffron Waldon.

He said: “We are doing really well.

“Four wins in a row and top of the league isn’t bad and it’s always enjoyable when you are winning."
