STEVE Coote continued his purple patch as Earls Colne gained the double they were looking for against neighbours Hedingham United, winning 2-1.

A good crowd watched the Kent Blaxill Essex and Suffolk Border League game.

An early headed goal by Will White set Colne on their way.

The game then came to life in the second half, when Colne’s Luke Mead had a goal disallowed for handball.

Brad Amos equalised for the visitors, before home keeper James Felton made a great double save from Sam George.

Colne’s Pete Robinson was then brought down in the box for a penalty, but top marksman Coote put the spot-kick over the bar.

However, with five minutes remaining, Coote made amends as he turned sharply in the box and smashed a great winner into the top corner.

It kept up his record of a goal in every game he has played and sent Colne up to fifth in the table, heading into tomorrow’s match at Holland FC.

Colne’s reserves’ game at Tiptree was postponed. They host Alresford tomorrow.
