Brightlingsea Regent marched into the next round of the Alan Turvey Trophy, sponsored by Robert Dyas, with a good win against ten-man Needham Market.

Visiting Regent secured a 3-1 second round victory at Bloomfields on Tuesday night.

But it was home side took the lead in the ninth minute when Regent were caught out with a ball over the top and Sam Newson fired home.

Phil Kelly, however, equalised for Regent with a first-time volley on 24 minutes.

And Kelly then gave the visitors the lead eight minutes later when he chased down a flick on from Luke Read to put the ball past the keeper.

After the break, Brightlingsea took control after a quick free-kick found Josh Mayhew and he lobbed the keeper on 54 minutes to make it 3-1.

It got worse for Needham as they were reduced to ten men when Callum Harrison was sent off for a late tackle five minutes later.

In Ryman League division north, Heybridge Swifts were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting AFC Sudbury.

Swifts took the lead in the 12th minute through Raphael Duyile.

But Craig Parker equalised for Sudbury on 27 minutes.

Maldon and Tiptree fell to a 2-0 defeat at Thurrock.

The home side took the lead through Charlie Stimson on 25 minutes.

Maldon looked for an equaliser but an own goal from Hamish Galbraith on the stroke of half-time doubled Thurrock’s advantage.

Thurrock went down to ten men when Lewis Clark picked up a second yellow card in the final minute but they held on for the win.
