Notley High School’s year nine footballers have been crowned district champions.
Following success in their group matches against local schools and managing to score over 30 goals, Notley faced a very strong Tabor side in the final and knew they had to start well and try to play at their own pace.
They managed to control the game from the start and began to dominate possession, with Finlay Rudge giving them the lead with a long-range effort that flew into the top corner.
Jack Rolls then latched on to a pressured clearance from the Tabor keeper and stroked the ball into the unguarded net for a 2-0 lead at half-time and when Joe Bennett fired the ball into the corner of the goal after the break, Notley were well in control.
Their defence was well-marshalled throughout by Monty Forster, Rory Baker and Owen Dawson as they denied Tabor a way back into the game until a late consolation goal, but Notley weren’t to be denied a 3-1 win.
