Discovery Tri Club had a busy time at the New Hall School Junior and Youth Triathlon.

In addition to competing, members also organised the event on behalf of the Chelmsford school.

The contest was one of three regional qualifiers for the British IR Championships.

New member Sam Ponty gained his second silver medal in two weeks but it was Halstead’s Swallow brothers, Elliot and Oliver, who grabbed the limelight, giving powerful performances to secure golds.

Ponty’s success came in the boys’ nine and ten age group.

In the same age group girls’ race, Abigail Kerr, from Sible Hedingham, again secured a podium place, which was her second bronze in two weeks.

In the boys’ 11/12 age group, Elliot Swallow showed he is a top-class swimmer and came out of the water 45 seconds ahead of his nearest rival.

This, and two good transitions, allowed him to pace himself comfortably in both the bike and run disciplines to secure gold.

In the 13/14 age group girls’ race, Alexandra Rae gave an exceptionable performance to secure a well-deserved bronze.

In the girls’ 15 and 16-year-olds race, Clover Murray added another bronze to her trophy cabinet.

The boys’ youth race saw Oliver Swallow follow up on his recent performances at both Eton and Blenheim Palace with another display of sheer class and professionalism.

He totally dominated, pacing to secure a gold position on the podium.
