BILLERICAY Town manager Craig Edwards has hailed the arrival of striker Jordan Cox as a “brilliant signing”.

The rangy striker has linked up with Town on a three-month loan deal from National League side Braintree, having spent the last quarter of the season playing with Concord Rangers.

Town sit in the play-off positions after a tremendous recent run which has seen them win four on the bounce and lose just two league games in the last 14 weeks.

However, Billericay have often been profligate in front of goal and Edwards believes the signing of Cox gives his side strong options in attack.

“It’s a brilliant signing,” he said. “I have been a big admirer of his ever since he was at Aveley and have made several attempts to bring him here.

“We are unbeaten in 10 league games but in the last seven or eight of them we have battered the other team. The score has not reflected our dominance and Jordan will be that clinical edge we have lacked at times. We have good strikers in our team but not what I would call an out-and-out goalscorer.”

Cox, who won a move to Braintree in 2013 after his goalscoring exploits for Aveley, joins Onome Sodje, Tom Derry, Mike Fondop and Cliff Akurang as Edwards reinforces his forward line ahead of the second half of the season.

And he believes the number of different options at his disposal could be important as Billericay look to cement a play-off position.

“We have really good forward options now and it is good to have that variety. On Saturday we only had Tom (Derry), (Onome) Sodje and Cliff (Akurang) because Mike (Fondop) was suspended and we needed more than that.

“I am not interested in bringing in someone that won’t drastically improve the quality of this team. The team ethic is very strong and I only want that to intensify as the season goes on.

“We have Jordan for a good length of time and hopefully he can contribute a lot to what we want to achieve.”

Cox could make his debut at struggling Farnborough on Saturday.
