Colchester United goalkeeper Sam Walker is adamant Doncaster Rovers’ winning goal should not have been allowed to stand.

Walker felt that Dean Furman kicked the ball out of his hands during the goalmouth scramble that led to Kyle Bennett striking home the visitors’ all-important winner, in the U’s narrow 1-0 defeat.

Walker said: “I haven’t seen it again but I certainly felt that I was fouled and a lot of the other boys weren’t happy with it, either.

“I thought that I had the ball in my hands and that it was taken out of my hands.

“There may have been another foul in there too and it was a very scrappy goal.

“It was looking like it was going to be one of those days where it finished in a 0-0 draw.

“I think both teams played good football and it was a great advert for League One football, with the ball being played on the ground a lot of the time.

“It was a good technical game and there weren’t many chances, which made me feel it was going to fizzle out into a draw.

“It was a disappointing goal for us to concede but we can take a lot from the performance that we put in.”
