Alex Lynn emerged from the latest round of the GP3 Series at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium with an enhanced lead at the top of the driver standings.

An epic battle with Richie Stanaway, who is sitting second in the championship table behind the 20-year-old from Dunmow, in the weekend’s second race at Spa ended with Lynn extending his lead to 32 points overall.

Lynn was only able to take four points from the opening race as he finished eighth – his lowest finish of the season in the feature event – after opting to start from the pit lane.

However, that eighth position placed Lynn in pole position for the second race and he used it to full effect as he held off Richie Stanaway just behind him to drive to a memorable win His win has placed Lynn in a strong position at the top of the standings with just three rounds to go ahead of the next round at Monza in Italy in two weeks.
