Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire wasn’t bothered by the 6-1 scoreline as his team were beaten by a strong Norwich City side in their pre-season clash at the Amlin Stadium.

Devonshire said he was more concerned by players’ individual performances rather than results in summer fixtures and felt there was some work to be done after what he had seen.

“I don’t look at results at all in pre-season,” he said.

“It’s all about fitness and sharpness.

“This game probably came a bit too early for us as they are right on top of it at the moment.

“It was fantastic to see, but the disappointing thing for me was that the goals we conceded were poor from our own defending.

“But we had a good work-out and a decent crowd came in so that’s good.

“It was a great occasion as they brought their first team, but I don’t look at results, I look at individual performances.

“I thought there were a couple of really good performances from some of our players and there were a couple of poor performances so that’s something they have to sort out.

“We’ll have to step it all up now.”

Braintree continue their pre-season campaign with a visit to the Amlin Stadium of Southend United on Saturday (kick-off 1pm).
