ALEX Dowsett has golden dreams for the Commonwealth Games.
Dowsett, from Cock Clarks, has been selected for the 36-strong England cycling team for this year’s Games in Glasgow, which begin on July 23.
The Movistar rider has been selected for the men’s road race team alongside Stephen Cummings, Jon Dibben,Tom Moses, Ian Stannard, Andy Tennant, Scott Thwaites and Sir Bradley Wiggins.
The 25-year-old’s focus will be on the Tine Trial and turning the silver medal he won at the Dehli Games in 2010 to gold.
Dowsett, the national time-trial champion, said: “Being selected for the England team is a great honour.
“My aim will be to ride to the gold medal in the time trial and go one better than the silver I won four years ago.
“I have one Commonwealth Games under my belt now and will know what to expect.
“It’s not like a normal bike race because you have all the other athletes around.
“I have family in Scotland and I am sure it is going to be a great atmosphere but quite stressful as well.”
Dowsett has come along way since his ride in Dehli.
He said: “I am a different rider than four years ago.
“Since then I turned professional and have been part of two pro teams (Team Sky and Movistar) and ridden in two of the biggest races in the world.
“If I knew back then what I do now then I could have won the gold, but I expect every rider says that.”
