A MAN has been ordered to pay £431 after pleading guilty to dumping large household waste items under a “No Dumping” sign.
Jamie Arnott, 39, of Malgraves Place, Pitsea, appeared at Basildon Magistrates Court on Monday 26 June, and pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place in September 2016.
Councillor Alan Ball, Basildon Council’s chairman of the environment and regeneration committee, said: “Fly-tipping is a serious environmental crime that costs taxpayers thousands of pounds each year.
“The majority of residents take pride in their surroundings and are outraged by individuals who dump household waste.
“85 per cent of the fly-tipping reports we receive are a result of household waste items being left, and we will issue a fixed penalty notice of £200 to anybody caught dumping these items incorrectly.
“This fine could have been avoided if he had paid £10 for a bulky waste collection.”
Arnott admitted one charge under Section 33 (1)(a) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £201.96 and a £30 victim surcharge.
