A GROUP of nearly 50 students enjoyed the trip of a lifetime as part of their geography studies.

The students, from Cornelius Vermuyden School, on Canvey, were enthralled by their visit to Iceland, where they spent five days learning about the country and its unique landscapes and natural phenomenons.

During their stay, the youngsters visited the famous geothermal spa, the Blue Lagoon, where they were able to swim in the water, try lava-based face masks and learn about geothermal energy.

They also stopped at an earthquake exhibition in Hveragerdi, where they learnt about the 2008 earthquake and even got to experience a 6.6 earthquake in a simulator.

The group visited the Gullfoss, or Golden Falls, waterfall as well as the Geysir Georthermal area of the country, which is teeming with hot springs and geysers, which soaked unwary pupils!

The final stop was at Eyjafjallajokull Volcano to learn about farming in the area.
