A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl is critically ill in hospital after a 6ft garden wall collapsed on her.
The child was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in a life-threatening condition after sustaining a severe head injury following the incident in Fleetway, Vange, yesterday, a spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said.
Emergency services including the Hertfordshire Air Ambulance were called to the scene shortly before 7pm.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officers attended a serious incident in Basildon. They attended a property in Fleetway following a call from the ambulance service shortly after 7.10pm yesterday.
"A six-year-old girl suffered serious injuries following a collapse of a six foot brick garden wall.
"She was airlifted to a hospital in London.
"The area was cordoned off whilst inquiries into the circumstances of the incident take place.
"The Health and Safety Executive has been notified.
"Our officers are providing support to the girl's family at this difficult time."
