X Factor star Matt Cardle was the labelled the “one to beat” after his performance on this week’s show.
Matt, from Little Maplestead, near Halstead, wowed judges with his rendition of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” in the Elton John themed show, and went through to the next round after his promise of giving it 110 per cent.
His mentor, Dannii Minogue, said: “The song choice is the hardest for this show and probably the competition.”
And Simon Cowell said: “I was worried about this song as it is a very difficult song to make work in under two minutes.
“But about half way through you went up a gear and I could have listened to another two to three minutes of that.”
Rumours are now circulating next week’s theme could be Wham.
