HUNDREDS of runners - young and old - took part in one of the hottest ever Colour 5K runs and helped to raise about £10,000.

The annual event sees participants pelted with powder paint at each kilometre to become a living masterpiece.

It also raises money for charity Headway Essex, which cares for people with acquired brain injuries.

About 500 runners took part in the event in Ardleigh.

In total, 36 teams ran, including a team of 20 employees from the main event sponsor, Kent Blaxill & Co.

Managing director Simon Blaxill said: “It was absolutely sweltering out there but everyone pushed through and ran the Colour5K.

“As a family-owned business ourselves we were thrilled to see the community get together for a celebration of colour on behalf of Headway Essex and, of course, the theme fits perfectly with the wide range of paints we stock.”

Tracy Wellsted, Headway fundraising manager, added: “A good time was had by all and it was inspiring to see so many families, friends and co-workers having such an amazing time together.

“We cannot thank everyone enough for their support.

“We’re over the moon as £10,000 is the largest amount we’ve ever raised at the Colour5K, which will go directly towards providing rehabilitation and support for brain injury survivors and their families and carers across Essex.”

She also thanked every sponsor and runner for their support.
