CHILDREN have been enjoying their school’s new £30,000 sports pitch for the first time.
Hamilton Primary School, in Constantine Road, Colchester, won funding from Sport England for the new facility, which can be used for a wide range of activities, including football, basketball and hockey.
The pitch was laid during the Easter holidays, and is now be ing used for lessons, playtimes and by after-school clubs.
Pupil Finn Davies, ten, said: “I can’t wait to use the new pitch. It’ll make sports at Hamilton even better.”
Classmate Oliver Keatley, also ten, added: “I love the new equipment.
“It’s great fun. Children have even made up new games to play on it.”
The school was one of 600 across the country to receive the cash, which was set aside for schools which have limited green space.
Headteacher Clive Reynolds said: “We’re very excited because we hope the children will be inspired to play sport.
“They love it.”
