Three people were rushed to hospital after two cars crashed along a country road.

Emergency services were called to Hunnex Green near Baythorne End after the two cars collided around 9.30pm on Monday evening.

It is not known how many people were travelling in the vehicles but two passengers were taken off to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge while a third was also transported there by air ambulance.

A spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said: "We dispatched two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and East Anglian Air Ambulance where they cared for three patients. One male in his 30’s, the other two gender and age is unknown.

"There were all taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for further care; two patients were taking by road and one by air."

Four fire engines were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.

"On arrival firefighters reported that no one was trapped and assisted the Police in making the scene safe.

"Two male casualties were left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

The condition for the three people taken to hospital is unknown.
