VOLUNTARY and community organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding from the High Sherriff of Essex Awards.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available from the fund managed by Essex Community Foundation.
The money will be awarded to groups who are working to make their communities safer and better places in which to live.
Projects which have received almost half a million pounds worth of grants previously include diversionary activities for young people, schemes which highlight the dangers of financial scams and educational programmes about drug and alcohol misuse.
High Sheriff of Essex, Simon Hall, said: “The awards provide a fantastic opportunity to recognise the essential contribution voluntary organisations make in keeping their local communities safer and better places in which to live.
"As I travel around the county visiting organisations, I am seeing first-hand the enormous contributions. I urge organisations to recognise this opportunity and apply for funding so they can further boost their efforts.”
