MORE than 70 people attended the inaugural messy church event held by Halstead’s St Andrew’s Church.
Children came with parents and grandparents to take part in crafts and games, together with songs, a story and a video.
Children made marshmallow sheep biscuits and clay shepherds’ crooks, then sat down together for a meal of soup, bread and cheese, followed by pumpkin pie and ice cream.
As intended, the event was relaxed and enjoyable, with plenty of laughter, chat and movement.
The Rev Katie de Bourcier, rector at St Andrew’s, on Parsonage Street, said: “Messy church is not at all like a traditional service.
“It is more unstructured and laid back. It’s for all ages, so that families can come together to spend time with one another, learn about Jesus, and enjoy a meal.
“We were delighted that so many people came along and seemed to have such a good time.”
The next messy church at St Andrew’s will be held in January
