Residents are horrified two supermarkets could be built in a quiet street.
Hunwick Engineering plan to close their Kings Road factory next year and move to Gosfield Airfield because their current site is becoming too small.
Managing director, Bernard Laskowski, had hoped to sell the site to a housing developer but Braintree Council say they could not support this because the land is on a flood plain.
Mr Laskowski believes the only other option would be to sell the land a retail or supermarket developer.
