Halstead: Newlyweds aged 73 and 77 raise money for cancer charities

John and Pam Parr
Newlyweds raised £1,225 for cancer charities after asking wedding guests to give donations instead of gifts.
John Parr, 77, and Pam Green, 73, chose to support Cancer Research and Macmillan nurses in memory of their former spouses.
John, originally from Halstead, lost his second wife Karen to breast cancer four years ago.
She was well known in Earls Colne and Mersea as a chiropodist.
Pam’s late husband Douglas, who was a farmer in Writtle, had cancer of the lung, spine and ribcage.
John, a member of Earls Colne Carpet Bowls Club, and Pam, were married at All Saints Church, Writtle, last month.
