Essex: Lord Hanningfield released after serving a quarter of his sentence Essex: Lord Hanningfield released after serving a quarter of his sentence

Disgraced Lord Hanningfield has been released from prison after serving just a quarter of his sentence.

The Tory peer, real name Paul White, was spotted walking his dog Jefferson on Friday afternoon near his home in West Hanningfield.

He was jailed in July for nine months for fiddling his House of Lords expenses to the value of £14,000.

Lord Hanningfield, 70, said: “I have been out of prison for a few days and I was treated very well.

“Some of the people who were in the prison were better than some of the people on the outside. “There is much more to my side of the story, which will be revealed when I’m ready."

“There is much more to my side of the story, which will be revealed when I’m ready."

So why didn't he use this"other side to his story" in his defence ?

Does he really think we're interested, stop wasting column inches on this p*att

Why has this man been released from a prison sentence after serving just 10% of his sentence?
I understood that only if you admitted to your offence could you be considered for parole. I believe Hanningfield has shown NO remorse nor does he even consider he had done anything wrong.
This man should still be in prison looking after the pigs that he is trained to do.
Only when he shows remorse consider him for parole.

He has done his time as determined by the justice system so everyone should now let him be. Whether it is right or wrong we cane ach have our own opinion and mine is that he should habe pleaded guity and took his punishment rather than try and justify his unacceptable and lapse expense accounting.

Having said that, 40 years of local government work and dedication should have been recognised and taken into consideration.

This is ever so sad!

I love this country. We jail people for a considerable amount of time for making comments on Facebook, but if you're a Lord, and you defraud the taxpayer (that's you or I) people come out and defend him and he gets out after what might as well have been a holiday.

And no doubt the media will now be paying him for his story, or he'll do an Archer and write a book.

Absolutely disgusting!

Council Man - '40 years of local government work and dedication should have been recognised and taken into consideration. '

Really? We are talking about the same Lord Hanningfield who treated Essex as his own little fiefdom?

I was working withing the Council myself when he was first charged with defrauding the public purse and took great pleasure in wiping his name from our offical communications (and even a few cheeky marker pen makeovers on the staff posters).

Now if we can just have Killian up before the Bailey for running the authority into the ground and making a mockery of local accountable governance, we can get back to fixing the problems within our County

I agree and would like to add that the comment preceding yours, Raven, is so obsequious it makes my stomach churn.
"Local government work and dedication" my foot. 40 years of privileged and PAID-for power and glory over the serfs... What an obnoxious pratt.

As it this Paul White.

Oh - and Paul White has the pretentiousness to name his dog 'Jefferson'? I wonder if he'd like to (no, I should ask if he even could) debate the nuances over another name, say, maybe, 'Madison'?
