Flowers were laid outside Colchester Castle in tribute to people who died after being accused of witchcraft.
Bouquets were left by the Essex Witch Trials Memorial Society, which is campaigning for a permanent monument in the castle gardens to the forgotten victims of Witchfinder General, Matthew Hopkins.
Some women died while waiting to be tried at Chelmsford in August 1645.
As they did not meet their end in the hangman’s noose, they never received the official pardons.
