FOUR dogs were rescued from a fire in Braintree as firefighters worked hard to tackle the flames.

Crews from Braintree, Chelmsford and Halstead rushed to a garden blaze in Notley Road, Braintree, at 1.17pm today.

The road was shut between Masefield Road and Longleaf Drive due to the incident.

At the scene, firefighters reported a shed fire had spread to a garage and requested further crew from Great Dunmow.

The team worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading, whilst they rescued four dogs who were in a kennel in a garden.

Dogs Diesel, Flo, Gigi, and Miley were unharmed and were reunited with their owners after the fire was extinguished.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Group Manager Scott Meekings said: “Crews worked quickly to get the fire under control and stop it spreading.

“I’m really pleased we were able to get to the dogs quickly before the smoke started to affect them.

“While the fire is out, Notley Road will be closed for some time while we make the scene safe.

“We know this will cause disruption near the local schools during pick up time, thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident.”
