A TOWN greengrocer has announced its “sad” closure... just months after it was first opened.
PVM Fruit and Veg launched in Bridge Street, opposite the library, in Halstead, at the end of February.
It is run by husband and wife duo Rayko Yordanov and Iva Germanova, who came to England from Bulgaria about eight years ago.
After spending five of those years in Halstead, the pair decided to bring their dream shop to life after deciding the town “needed a proper greengrocer”.
The shop is named after the couple’s daughters, Peppi, Vanessa and Maggie and was born out of Rayko and Iva's love of gardening and fresh produce.
During its time in the town, the shop has been selling both locally grown and exotic fruit and vegetables.
It also sells raw honey, handmade jams, luxury biscuits, fresh herbs and mushrooms.
Over the last few months, the shop has been very popular and received plenty of positive feedback from residents.
Despite the success, the couple have now revealed the sad news they are having to leave the shop behind.
A statement reads: “We are very sad to announce that PVM Fruit and Veg is closing.
“We don't want to leave the shop but due to circumstances we have to close.”
Going forwards, the pair have said they are looking for someone to take over the premises, with a desire to keep the greengrocers alive.
They continued: “If someone has an interest in taking it over and working it, they can contact us.
“We will be very happy for this shop to continue working in Halstead because we want to see a greengrocer here and the shop has a very big potential to grow a lot.”
