A POPULAR village festival is set to return in time for the jubilee celebrations as it is put on for the first time in four years.

The Colne Engaine Festival is coming back for 2022 and is preparing for a fun-filled four days of shows, music, and other entertainment, in line with the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

First beginning in 1996, it will be the 13th Colne Engaine festival to come to the village, being held every other year.

The event is organised by the Colne Engaine Festival Committee, who say they are excited to bring it back after it was cancelled in 2020.

Juliet Townsend, chairman of the organising committee, said: “Everyone is looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting all the new people who have moved here over the last few years.

“There is something for everyone during our two free-entry fete days, when the recreation ground will be filled with displays, games and stalls.

“After all the lockdowns there's clearly an appetite for getting together in the community because all three of our evening events have sold out quickly and we're hoping to see lots of entries in our hobby and craft competition and our Sunday dog show."

Both the Saturday and Sunday fete days will run from 12pm to 5pm.

Displays over the weekend will include birds of prey, parkour, dance, cheerleading, circus skills, classic cars, exhibitions of art and local history.

Activities will range from the traditional to the modern, with splat the rat alongside mini crazy golf, bubble football, inflatables and a storytelling tent.

Volunteers will also be serving tea and cake and local businesses will be serving beer and cocktails, burgers, bruschetta, ice cream, fudge and sweets.

The Colne Engaine Festival is from June 2 to June 5, at the Colne Engaine Recreation Ground, entry to the event is free, however, some activities require tickets to enter.

Parking is free in a field on loan from a local farmer and will be signposted and supervised.
