The Braintree district is now committed to providing 716 homes per year for the next 15 years.
New developments at Oak Road, Mount Hill, Colchester Road and Sudbury Road, mean that there is simply no further requirement for additional housing in this small market town.
So it was with dismay that I read about the plans to build even more housing in the town; this time on the derelict Hunwick site.
Instead of yet more housing, it would be far better to create a “professionals” business park that would provide premises for a diverse range of businesses.
These could include legal services, health provision, wellness centre, veterinary services, tech/IT businesses, even small wholesale outlets as well as office space for a wide range of professionals and small businesses.
A Hunwick Business Park would benefit the entire community, not just a small sector, and it would make good use of the land without adding to the overdevelopment of housing.
