FIGURES which state a council have been missing less than ten waste collections per day in the past year have been criticised.

Members of Maldon District Council were presented with a table of performance indicators, measures and targets for the council going into the next financial year.

Included in this is the average number of justified missed collections per day made by the council for the 2017/18 financial year, which was recorded at 9.48.

This was a new indicator introduced for this financial year after the council rolled out its new waste collection scheme in June 2016.

The target for the 2018/19 financial year was set at less than ten collections missed per day, meaning the report stated that the council would be on track to meet their target.

But Adrian Fluker, ward member for Southminster, believed these figures to be too low.

At the meeting, he said: “I must ask the question of what the council define as a justified missed collection. This average number of less than ten per day seems low.

“I say this as occasionally my and other people’s whole road have had their collections missed in one day.

“I know many are happy with the latest service to be introduced, but I don’t feel these figures cover the whole picture.”
