A TRIBUTE act have sold out the O2 Empire after organising a commemorative concert to glam rock superstar Marc Bolan.

Halstead legend Danielz, and his band T.Rextasy, will lead a 1970s extravaganza to mark 40 years since the musician died in a car crash.

Danielz has launched the event, set for September, alongside Marc Almond, a star from the 80s who rose to prominence with hits including Tainted Love.

Danielz said: “This is the third time I have been involved with arranging a big, special London gig for Marc Bolan.

“This year may possibly be the last real biggie that I’ll arrange. It’s been a lot of hard work getting everything together and rehearsing everyone in.

“I am looking forward to it as it’ll be the largest gathering of Marc Bolan and T.Rex fans in one place at any one time.

“The special thing about this gig, is that it did sell out so quickly, the 2,000 tickets were gone before we knew it really.

“Marc Almond actually wanted us to put on a second night, but we couldn’t do it, and I think one night keeps it special in many ways.

Adding to T.Rextasy and Marc Almond, Danielz has also invited other musicians and stars along including Tony Visconti, the David Bowie and Marc Bolan producer, Holly Johnson of Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols, and many more to perform at the 02 Empire in Shepherd's Bush.

Since forming in 1992, the group have grown to more than just a tribute act, touring the world with a host of top names.

He said: “We started as a proper tribute act, doing really small pub gigs, and we’ve grown so rapidly since.

“We had the original T.Rex keyboard player join us for five years and other members join us for shows sometimes.

“What’s really nice, and helped a lot is Marc Bolan’s record label endorse us, and I think we are still one of the only tribute acts to date to have a major record deal.”

Danielz added: “Because we have all these special guests, we have managed to attract fans from across the world. It is a lovely feeling, that these people go through all the trouble just to see us.”

Danielz & T.Rextasy will commence their tour after their gig, which will see them perform at Halstead’s Empire Theatre, just a short walk from Danielz’s house, on December 3.
