RESIDENTS at a care home lined the streets of Colchester for a wartime celebration.

St Fillan care home hosted the street party as part of a dementia care programme.

The 70 residents at the home in St Fillan Road soaked up the British summer weather in their Union Jack hats, and enjoyed a community feast together.

Staff were dressed the part and entertainment was provided by special guests such as singer Marie Saunders.

The residents’ families also joined in the fun, laughter and nostalgia.

Kylie Wheeler, care manager, said: “From our point of view it was really successful and we had great feedback from residents and relatives.

“Residents from the area also joined in.

“Every other month we will be looking to do something like this to bring the fun back, and our next event will be a summer barbecue in August.

“We will be making it a regular thing.”

The tea party took place on Friday, June 16.
