A HUSBAND has called for street lights to be turned back on after his BMW was stolen off his drive.

Ed Saunders, from Witham, was at home with his wife Lynda and their children on Wednesday night, May 10.

Some time during the night his 2009 BMW 2.5M was broken into by thieves.

Mr Saunders, of The Avenue, said the streetlights would have acted as a deterrent.

He said: "I'm surprised how they got in as the car was locked.

"None of the windows had been smashed, we didn't hear anything.

"There are a few cars that have been stolen from our road in the past year.

"One good thing as that no-one was hurt and they didn't break into the house."

The project manager said because the A12 and A120 were so close, it is easy for car thieves to get away.

He said: "One of the things that would have helped is the street lighting being on.

"Our neighbours have CCTV and they said if the lights had been on it would have given a better idea of who it was.

"I just don't understand, you would have thought there had been some debris, but there was absolutely nothing."

Police have been contacted and ask anyone with information to call 101.
