A junior football team is hoping to enjoy a new lease of life after securing a sponsorship deal with housebuilder Bloor Homes.

The developer has donated £750 to Halstead Town Under 13s, enabling the club to kit out its players in brand new training jackets and trousers.

The remaining cash will be used to cover pitch fees and to support the club’s fundraising appeal to buy a defibrillator for Courtalds Sports Ground, where 15 of its youth teams play.

A defibrillator has already been provided for the first team’s home ground at Milbank Stadium on Rosemary Lane following a generous donation from local business Daniel Robinson & Sons.

The appeal was launched following the tragic death of an 18-year-old man who suffered a heart attack whilst playing for Holland FC in Clacton last year.

Halstead Under 13s have been playing together for the past five years and compete in the Colchester and District League, playing their home matches at Gosfield Playing Field.

Sally Smith, manager of Halstead Town U13s, said: “The team was in serious need of a new training kit so we are extremely grateful to Bloor Homes for their generous donation. The jackets look really professional, and we hope that will encourage the youngsters to commit to playing the game.

“Some of the money donated by Bloor Homes will go towards our appeal to buy a second defibrillator for use in the event of a player, official or spectator suffering a heart attack during a local league match.

“This is a cause very close to our hearts following last year’s tragedy, and we are asking all players, parents and supporters to each make small contribution towards the fund. Any donations from individuals or businesses would also be gratefully received.”

Bloor Homes’ successful Earl’s Garden in Sible Hedingham is now selling its first phase and their brand new development in Halstead, Oakwood Hill will be launching sales in the summer with a Show Home opening in the autumn. Interest can be registered online today.

Regional Sales Director Monika Hanlon said: “We are always keen to support the communities in which we build and with the team playing so close to both our Halstead and Sible Hedingham developments we felt this was an ideal partnership.

“Halstead FC’s defribillator appeal is an extremely worthy cause and one we are proud to be supporting. We hope the team have a successful end to the season and it would be fantastic if some of the youngsters who move into our developments go on to play for the club in the future.”
