A THIRTEEN-year-old has bounced back from a horrible leg break to be crowned a national champion in trampolining.

Evie Stokes-Shinn, a Hedingham School pupil, has had a successfully trampolining career since a very young age, but was involved in a terrible car accident last year which saw six screws and a metal plate inserted in her left leg.

But the Year 9 bounced back and seems to be stronger than ever after being crowned the British Schools under-14 Elite Champion 2017 in trampolining.

Just last year Evie spent several months in plaster after having an operation to insert a metal plate and six screws in her lower left leg.

Obviously, this had a huge impact on her training but the youngster remained determined to compete as soon as possible.

She said: "Even when I was lying in my hospital bed, I was determined to get back to top fitness as soon as possible."

The thirteen-year-old was so focussed on returning to the trampoline, she started conditioning exercises when she still had her plaster cast on, and then committed to regular physio to build her strength back up.

The British School Elite Championships saw Evie sail through the two regional rounds to qualify for the final competition.

With Evie up against 26 other national finalists, she travelled to Gateshead to compete in the final and emerged victorious.

Always looking forward, next up Evie will be competing in the British Individual Spring series at the end of April, and then again in June.

Evie is hoping success in these events lead to selection for the GB squad.

The school added: "With her natural skill, willingness to train hard and great determination we have no doubt that Evie will succeed."
