A charity that has been going for more than 60 years has donated £1,000 to those in need.

The Halstead Needy Sick and Edith Rachel Sudbury Fund handed over the money in Sainsbury’s vouchers to Halstead Foodbank on Monday.

Clerk of the charity Lisa Taylor said: “The charity was founded back in the 1950s so it has been around for quite a while.

“We have used the Co-op for a couple of vouchers recently so we thought we would use Sainsbury’s this time.

“As we are a Halstead-based charity, we like to use local supermarkets.”

Tony Shelton, chair of the charity, presented the vouchers to David Lorkin and Magggie Drewett of Halstead foodbank, with Sainsbury’s workers also in attendance.

The charity helps those in Halstead who are needy and sick and in need of financial support.

Lisa added: “We get applications for parents who have sick children and need help paying for their travel to the hospital, or those who can’t afford to send their child on a school trip.

“The trustees consider the applications at one of our meetings, which happen four times per year.”

Applications are available from Halstead Town Council offices, in Mill House, the Causeway.

Those applying must be from Halstead.
