Footballer’s hopes that they are on the verge of returning home have been dashed after they have yet to raise the final £30,000 to modernise their ground.

Players at Colne Engaine Football Club had hoped to come back to Burches Meadow in Pebmarsh Road by next season after three years of playing games in Braintree and Maldon.

The facilities at their home ground were deemed to be substandard so the club has spent £48,000 building a new pavilion, however they still need the extra funds to set up the electrics and plumbing inside the building.

Secretary Richard King had hoped that plans to return home would soon come to fruition but the club has since decided to amalgamate with Wormingford Wanderers for another year.
