Witham and Braintree MPs promoted to Government in today's cabinet reshuffle

Halstead Gazette: Priti Patel was tipped for promotion Priti Patel was tipped for promotion

Witham's MP has been promoted into a junior ministerial position in David Cameron’s reshuffle of his front bench.

It was announced today that Conservative’s Priti Patel was appointed exchequer secretary as part of the Prime Minister’s shake-up of his cabinet ahead of the next general election.

Ms Patel, who won her seat in the town in 2010, will work alongside chancellor George Osborne in the treasury team dealing with tax policy.

Mr Osborne tweeted her: “Very warm welcome to Priti Patel @priti4witham who joins treasury team as exchequer secretary - strong addition to our excellent HMT team.”

Braintree MP Brooks Newmark was also promoted in the reshuffle and was appointed as parliamentary secretary at the cabinet office.

Graham Butland, leader of Braintree Council, offered his congratulations to both MPs and said it was "a good day for the Braintree district".

More in this week's Braintree and Witham Times, out on Thursday.

Clearly it was politically correct for Cameron to diversify the cabinet and Pritti Patel fitted te bill, Not on One but on Two counts!

Clearly damage limitation -- the cabinet has been diversified for decades - with warmongers and paedophiles

Well done Priti. Not my MP but clearly a good one. Promoted on merit rather than because she is a woman - unlike the PC brigade at Labour.

She is not in the cabinet, nor is Mr Newmark. They are just junior ministers, i.e. bag-carriers for their bosses.
Anyway they will probably only have 10 months in office. They will get re-elected but just as back-bench MPs.

Priti Patel is ranked no. 9 on the "sexy mp" website (google it....).
Brooks Newmark must be on the list but I can't find him.
Douglas Carswell is ranked as 60th.
Bernard Jenkin is 78th.
Bob Russell is 607th.
