Plans to build affordable homes go against the will of democracy, a councillor claims.
The former site of the senior citizens’ centre in New Street, Halstead, has been earmarked for up to 11 affordable homes in Braintree Council’s Local Development Framework (LDF).
But opponents of the scheme claim the proposed area has been inappropriately extended to include a picnic area which adjoins Halstead Public Gardens.
To meet Government building targets, 3,443 homes should be provided in Braintree district by the year 2026.
As part of the LDF, Braintree Council has identified locations for future developments.
But Halstead Town Council vice-chairman Jackie Pell claims Braintree Council have ignored councillors’ views about the New Street site.
