Village cuts its street lighting to save £4K
9:00am Monday 3rd March 2014 in News
A village is set to lose half of its street lights as part of a money-saving measure.
Gosfield parish councillors have decided to stop using half of the village’s 77 lights and to switch off the remaining lights between midnight and 5.30pm following a consultation with residents.
It is hoped the move could save the parish council £4,000 a year - half the amount it currently spends on maintenance and electricity.
Parish council leader Max Ford said: “Street lights are one of the most expensive parts of our budget and they’re 50-60 years old and need increasing maintenance.
“Some are so old, it’s difficult to get the parts for them."
