Up to 50 jobs could be created after a business park received permission to expand.

Braintree Council has granted permission for two new units to be built at Earls Colne Business Park, situated next to Earls Colne Airfield.

The extension will see two start-up units built, with accompanying parking and landscaping, creating an extra 1,440 sq metres of office space.

Lady Patricia Newton, Braintree Council cabinet member for planning and property, said: "Earls Colne Business Park is one of the district's most established and successful business hubs.

“It is currently operating at capacity, employing over 1,400 people and housing companies ranging from large industrials through to small high tech enterprises.

"As a council it is vital we recognise the importance of our key business sites and work with them to look at their changing needs and requirements.

Business park managing director Malcolm Hobbs said: “I am very impressed at the support that Braintree District Council are giving to business in the district, which is coming at the right time as we head out of recession.

“In addition to the new units we have recently been supported in our application for a new rural business centre proposal, which will provide employment opportunities and help for new businesses over the coming years, when it comes on stream in late 2014.

“The ‘open arms’ approach to business the council is taking is setting Braintree apart from many other districts, and is a key factor in attracting employers to think about re-locating to the area.”

Lady Newton said: “We have set tough targets for the district in terms of creating jobs and supporting business, and these new units will aid this.

“With an increasing number of start-ups looking for space the creation of these new units will allow the business park to attract new businesses or those looking to expand."
