The return of Marvel’s comic book creations to the big screen in Avengers: Age Of Ultron will no doubt excite many, while confusing some.
Newcomers such as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver and his sister Wanda, aka Scarlet Witch, with their X-Men connections, have joined the crew.
If you’re still scratching your head as to how they fit into the Marvel movies universe (referred to as MMU), here’s the lowdown on who’s who.
Tony Stark/Iron Man
Billionaire playboy, industrialist and ingenious engineer Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr, has starred in three of his own Iron Man films, as well as the Avengers films. He will also be in Captain America 3.
Steve Rogers/Captain America
Steve Rogers and his Captain America alter-ego, played by Chris Evans, has not only starred in his own films and the Avengers ones – he has also made an uncredited cameo in Thor: The Dark World.
Thor
With his hammer power, Norse god Thor – played by Chris Hemsworth – has starred in the two Thor and Avengers films.
Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow
Russian spy Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, is portrayed by Scarlett Johansson. Having made her debut in Iron Man 2, she has since appeared in the two Avengers films and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Since his big-screen introduction in Thor, expert archer Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye has appeared in the Avengers films. He is set to star in the third Captain America film, Captain America: Civil War, and has signed on to reprise the role in a Hawkeye spin-off.
Bruce Banner/Hulk
Scientist Bruce Banner and his big green giant alter-ego made his debut in Avengers Assemble. He has also been in Iron Man 3 and there are rumours he could be getting his own spin-off movie.
Nick Fury
As the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D, Nick Fury – portrayed by Samuel L Jackson – has appeared in the Avengers films, as well as the first two Iron Man films, the first Thor movie and two Captain America movies.
Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch
Originally X-Men (both are Magneto’s children), the twins have joined the cast of Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, Quicksilver possesses superhuman speed, while Scarlet Witch can manipulate dreams and create magic.
Both first appeared in a mid-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, before starring in Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Thanos
Villain Thanos, who appeared briefly in the Avengers Assemble credits and featured in Guardians Of The Galaxy, will be back in the third and fourth Avengers films, Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 and 2.
Spider-Man
Spider-Man is set to join forces with the Avengers, and there are rumours the character could appear in the third Captain America film, Captain America: Civil War.
Ant-Man/Hank Pym
Hank Pym and his Ant-Man alter-ego will be the star of his own film, although he also has links to the Avengers. The character is also rumoured to appear in Captain America 3.
