Jim Carrey has revealed he would like to star in a drama again – if it was the right role.
The 52-year-old funnyman is best known for his comedic roles in Dumb And Dumber, The Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, although he has shown off his serious side in The Truman Show, Man On The Moon and I Love You Phillip Morris.
“I hope to, sure,” he said. “Those are the types of things I like for something special. I like the idea to be a special effect in itself.”
Jim – who has reprised his role as Lloyd Christmas in Dumb And Dumber To – said all his dramatic roles were special to him.
“As far as dramas go, I’ve been in several and I like them all. They’re like my kids!” he said.
“Playing (Andy) Kaufman in Man On The Moon was an honour, and I Love You Phillip Morris, I thought was a very original idea. The fact that a gay man would use Aids as an escape route was amazing to me.”
He continued: “Eternal Sunshine is a concept and a very rare moment where a writer and director capture a primal human thing, which is the idea of being erased. And The Truman Show, I felt so lucky to be a part of.
“I had actually attempted to write something like The Truman Show two years before and couldn’t get the handle, and then the script came to me and I thought, ‘Thank you God. Somebody did it’.”
Jim also added: “I love all the comedies. Sometimes I pick the really edgy and darker stuff.”
