Saskia Clark is placed top of the women’s 470 class leaderboard after the first six races of the Olympic regatta.
The 32-year-old from West Mersea and helm Hannah Mills opened yesterday’s action with their second bullet (race win) of the regatta, but then saw the day’s second race abandoned due to light winds while well-placed.
When the wind did pick up, the British pair were going well again until they hit a marker buoy and had to perform a penalty turn.
That dropped them down the field, but they responded well to take their third sixth place of the regatta.
The New Zealand pairing of Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie are Clark and Mills’ closest rivals, one point behind them in the overall standings.
Today is a rest day for the 470 women, with racing set to recommence on Tuesday and Wednesday and the final medal race taking place on Friday.
