JOSH Bohui says he never stopped believing that he would get his chance at Colchester United after scoring his first-ever league goal.

And the former Manchester United youngster says coming off the bench to bag the U’s winner against Salford City was a ‘special moment’ in his career.

Bohui has found his game time limited at Colchester since joining them on a free transfer last October, particularly over recent months.

But the skilful forward showed superb composure to score in the 1-0 win over Salford, on his first senior appearance since mid-January.

And the 22-year-old is now in line to make his first-ever league start for the U’s when they travel to play Tranmere Rovers tomorrow.

Bohui said: “It was a very special moment for me.

“Hayden (Mullins) was telling me that I was going to get an opportunity, so I was focused and looking forward to it.

“When it came and I scored, praise God, I was happy and the team was happy too, which is the important thing.

“We’ve been working hard and when you work hard and see the results, it’s nice.

“I’ve kept the faith and kept on believing that I’d get my opportunity and hopefully, there are many more to come.

“Any young player who joins a team wants to play but I understand that there’s a structure here and you have to work extremely hard.

“That’s what I have been doing so when the opportunity did come, I was happy to take it.

Halstead Gazette:

“It would be nice to start on Saturday – I’m working hard in training and whoever the manager picks, I’m sure that they’re going to work hard for the team.

“We want to get a result and that’s the most important thing.

“We want to finish well and end the season in a positive way.

“Everyone pushed hard to make sure that we stayed up and now we’ve done it, so it’s important that we express ourselves in the last game with not as much pressure on our shoulders.”

Bohui celebrated in poignant fashion after scoring against Salford, raising his hands to the sky.

“I’m giving back to the One, the Creator, the Author,” said Bohui, who has made 12 league appearances for Colchester since joining them on a free transfer from Dutch club NEC Breda.

“He’s helped me throughout the difficult times and that’s what we’re here for, we want to show everyone the Truth and I think it was a nice gesture, me showing that.”

Colchester head to Tranmere this weekend knowing that their League Two status is safe, for another season.

The U’s had been threatened by relegation but three wins from their last four matches have helped them steer clear of the drop zone.

Bohui added: “It’s been difficult at times but the main thing is that we stuck together, kept on working hard on and off the pitch and we stayed positive.

“I wasn’t always playing in games but in the changing room, you could see the bond between everyone.

“Sometimes we were frustrated but we had people cheering us on and we continue to move forward.”
