COLCHESTER United interim boss Wayne Brown is demanding another hard-working performance when the U’s host Newport County at the JobServe Community Stadium tomorrow.

His side ended a 14-match winless streak with a 2-1 triumph against Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

Now Brown is eager to see more of the same as the U’s bid to secure back-to-back victories for the first time since early December.

“Desire and intensity, hard work and sweat on the shirt is the minimum requirement,” said Brown.

“If you’ve got that as your base, you can then work off that.

“If you haven’t got the commitment and desire, then you’re in the wrong game.

“We’re going to need that in abundance, for the rest of the season.

“We know that they’ve got that in the locker now, whereas over the last couple of weeks or months, you’re maybe questioning a few.

“But there was no question (against Carlisle) because everyone to a man had that and there’s no reason why we can’t continue that week in and week out.

“If anyone is doubting how much it means to the lads, it’s there for all to see.

“It means a lot and you look at the second goal – everyone to a man got involved with the celebration.”

Colchester’s win against Carlisle was their first since seeing off Scunthorpe United at the start of December and pushed the U’s up to 20th in the League Two standings, ten points above the relegation zone.

Brown feels Colchester have the togetherness to work their way up the table.

“We’re a close knit group; we do need to keep working on that but it’s there and this is just the start,” said Brown.

“I’ve said to the lads that we’ve got to kick on now.

“We’ve got another opportunity on Saturday at home so we really need to take this result forwards and build on it and hopefully we will.”

Newport go into the game sitting eighth in the table, one point and one place below the play-off positions. But the Exiles have triumphed just twice in their last 16 games.
