COLCHESTER United crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of non-league Marine, of Northern Premier League Division One North West.

The U's lost 5-3 on penalties at the JobServe Community Stadium, after the first-round tie had finished 1-1 after extra-time.

Colchester fans have their say on a hugely disappointing day for the club.

Jackyboyyy:

Complacent, arrogant, and got exactly what we deserved, no excuses, well done to marine they deserved the victory and probably should have won in the 90! Hope they get a good draw in the next round! A chance of valuable income lost by arrogance

Jon Palmer:

Embarrassment! The rest is unprintable.

Mikokonuts:

Poor work rate off the ball and poor decision making. Summary of our season so far.

James Epsom:

Thing with fa Cup marine up there game by 110% because they have that no fear and we just dip to being complacent thinking we can stroll around and give them no respect.. We were totally out fought and deserved to lose.. Feel for Robbie as every one of them let the club down

Andrew Simmons:

Every match starts at 0-0 and you have to actually get about and win it regardless of the standard of opposition - it looked far too passive from #ColU. Did we not learn from our own League Cup successes last season about the power of an underdog?? Huge praise for Marine, who were very resolute - but #ColU resembled England in defeat to Iceland in 2016... 5 yard passes misplaced, poor body language (teapots after Marine goal!) zero quality in the final pass, totally unacceptable for a professional side vs lower level team.

Tracey Welsh:

Credit to Marine they had a game plan, stuck to it and it worked. It could have been 2-0 at half-time. Pedestrian first half from Us. Players let Ball down - he put 1st team out. Penalties are always a lottery.

Jack Mumford:

Disgraceful performance. How can we go and beat Crystal Palace and Tottenham and then go and lose to an 8th tier side.

Jake:

Reminiscent of Oxford City a few years back, looked complacent from the first minute and got beaten fair and square. We’ve had plenty of cup shocks go our way in the last few seasons but it doesn’t make it any easier when we’re on the receiving end

Bryn Griffiths:

The Us performance was lamentable. However we should applaud the efforts of tier eight Marine. Giant killings like this are what makes the FA Cup such a great competition. The Us know all about the joy of giant killing. I just wish we hadn’t been on the receiving end this time!

Elliot Wreford:

Another team that when they closed down the ball we offered nothing, none of the players looked like they wanted it

Matt Webb:

Men against boys. Unfortunately Col U were the boys... Onwards and upwards... Up the U's!!

Jon:

Sloppy play and poor decision making ultimately lost the game. A slow start, and a real underestimation of our opponents, were also key factors. Feels like a reoccurring theme this season....

The Hippo:

It was pedestrian and by that I mean the #colu team were walking it about, no urgency or running. No one running to find space or draw their players out of position. I think the walking and the little dinks and flicks that lost possession must be complacency. Well done Marine.

Ron Smyth:

Listening to commentary I felt every moment of that game! And it felt that compared to other games the U's couldn't get to grips with any part of it let alone take control! Although they equalised Marine wouldn't let go and saw it through to the end!

Rob Ladbrook:

No desire, no urgency, constantly defensive against a team 4 leagues below, players took it as a day off which came back to bite them!

Paul Chisnall:

A pathetic performance, and i can only hope the players are made to watch it in full, so they can suffer like us. Why so negative from the start? Why is our record so appalling in cup competitions? Reaction from players and manager poor. 2nd half needed a reset, but no change.
